A random video chat needs your camera the moment you press Start, which is exactly when most permission problems show up. The good news is that almost all of them are the same three things: the browser is waiting for permission you never saw, the site was denied once and the browser remembers, or another app is holding the camera. None of them is a broken camera.
Work through the list for your device. Each fix takes under a minute, and the last section covers the rarer cases: the wrong camera, a preview that freezes, and video that connects but drops.
First, the thirty-second version
- 1
Reload the page
A stuck permission prompt or a camera that was taken by another tab clears with a plain reload. Press Start again and watch for the prompt.
- 2
Press Allow, not "only this time" if offered
Some browsers offer a one-time permission. Choose the standard Allow so the prompt does not reappear on every match.
- 3
Close whatever else has the camera
A video call app in the background, a second tab with a camera site, Instagram or Snapchat left open. Only one thing can use the camera at once on most phones.
- 4
Try the other browser
On iPhone, Safari is the reliable choice for camera access. On Android, Chrome or Samsung Internet. If one refuses, the other usually works while you sort the first out.
Android (Chrome, Samsung Internet)
If you never saw a prompt, the site was denied earlier. Open randomgirl.chat, tap the lock or tune icon on the left of the address bar, choose Permissions, and set Camera and Microphone to Allow. Reload.
If Chrome itself has no camera access, the prompt cannot appear at all. Open the phone Settings, Apps, Chrome, Permissions, and allow Camera and Microphone there. The same applies to Samsung Internet or any other browser you use.
A black preview on Android is nearly always another app holding the camera. Swipe away recent apps that might be using it, especially video call apps and social apps with stories, and reload.
iPhone and iPad (Safari)
Safari remembers a "Don’t Allow" per site. Go to Settings, Safari, scroll to Settings for Websites, tap Camera, and set it to Ask or Allow; do the same for Microphone. Reload the page and press Start.
If the prompt still does not appear, check Settings, Screen Time, Content and Privacy Restrictions, and make sure Camera is allowed; a restriction there silences every site. Also check that Safari is allowed to use the camera under Settings, Privacy and Security, Camera.
Chrome and other browsers on iPhone use Safari’s engine but manage their own permissions; if a call fails there, open the site in Safari. If you installed RandomGirl to your home screen, it inherits Safari’s camera permission, so fixing Safari fixes the icon too.
Desktop (Windows and Mac)
Click the camera icon that appears at the right end of the address bar and choose "Always allow". If the icon is not there, open the browser’s site settings for randomgirl.chat and allow Camera and Microphone.
On Windows, Settings, Privacy, Camera must allow desktop apps and your browser to use the camera. On a Mac, System Settings, Privacy and Security, Camera must list your browser as allowed; if you just toggled it, restart the browser.
If the preview is black on a laptop, close Zoom, Teams, Meet, OBS or any app that opens the camera at login. A physical privacy shutter on the webcam is the other classic cause.
Rarer problems and their fixes
- The wrong camera is onDuring a call, tap the flip icon to switch between front and back cameras. On a desktop with more than one webcam, the browser’s camera icon in the address bar lets you pick which one.
- Preview works, call has no videoUsually the connection, not the camera. Move to Wi‑Fi or switch to a voice call for that conversation; the video will come back on a stronger signal.
- Video freezes after a few secondsA power-saving mode or a browser tab in the background. Keep the tab in the foreground and, on Android, exclude the browser from battery optimisation for the length of the call.
- She cannot hear youThe microphone permission is separate from the camera. Allow both when prompted, and check that a Bluetooth headset that is off has not been chosen as the input.
- Everything works except on the home-screen iconRemove the icon, allow the camera in the browser once, then add the icon again. The installed app uses the browser’s permission.
- It worked yesterday, not todayA browser update can reset site permissions. Repeat the allow step for your platform above; it is a one-time fix.
When to give up on the camera and call anyway
If the camera refuses and you do not want to spend the evening in settings, you can still talk. On RandomGirl a call you start from a girl’s profile can run as a voice call with your video off, and a text conversation costs nothing to receive. Fix the camera when you have a minute; the how it works page shows where those options are.
And once it works, keep it working: allow the camera permanently rather than "only this time", keep the tab in the foreground during calls, and close other camera apps first.
Questions people ask before their first call
Why does the camera prompt never appear?
The site was denied earlier and the browser remembers. Reset it under the site’s permissions: the lock icon in the address bar on Android and desktop, or Settings, Safari, Camera on iPhone.
Why is my camera preview black?
Another app or tab is holding the camera. Close video call apps and social apps in the background, reload the page, and press Start again.
Does RandomGirl work with the camera on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. Allow Camera and Microphone when Safari asks; if you denied it once, change it under Settings, Safari, Camera.
How do I switch to the back camera?
Tap the flip icon on the call screen. On desktop with several webcams, pick the camera from the browser’s camera icon in the address bar.
Can I use RandomGirl without a camera?
For random matches the camera is part of the deal, but a call started from a profile can run with your video off as a voice call, and messages work without a camera at all.
